Over one hundred years ago, a group of Canadian men who were working for a publishing house in Toronto, Ontario all had a passion to paint landscapes. Through the years they would travel for weeks into the Canadian wilderness and paint our rugged country. In 1920, they had their first art show in Toronto naming themselves the Group of Seven and Tom Thomson. The reason Tom Thomson’s name is singled out is because he had an untimely accident and died a few years before they had their official show. To honour him his name is added on to the Group’s official name as he was very influential in helping them all find their creative ways in capturing the Canadian landscape. This group of men and their iconic images, like the one on this page, have become internationally known and celebrated not only here in Canada but around the world.
